John O'Brien (he/him)

Chief Security Curmudgeon, Canadian Digital Service (CDS)

John O’Brien is the crustiest security guy you’ll ever meet, but likeany good loaf of bread, he’s soft on the inside. He’s a technical director with an interest in security and reliability engineering at the Canadian Digital Service (CDS). CDS works with Government
departments to create better digital services for Canadians.

He previously worked for the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) in incident response, malware reverse engineering, and automated analysis and orchestration. He grudgingly responded to compromises he
can’t discuss that affected the Government of Canada. He’s the guy that made Assembly line open source, a first for CSE’s cyber defence
program.
